The Styx - a film opera

Athanasia is currently co-producing a 15-minute film opera/ musical artist film with award-winning poet/filmmaker Katie Byford.

​

Katie's specially commissioned text, follows a woman in her therapist's office, undergoing EMDR therapy to overcome PTSD from sexual assault. The therapy induces a dream state, and the patient receives imagined spiritual guidance from ancient Greek Goddess Persephone, herself a survivor of sexual violence.

​

The music is scored for female voice, violoncello and clarinet. Helene Mathiesen sings and will act in the film, which will be directed by Katie, and co-directed by Athanasia. Helene will also co-produce the film.

​

The Styx has secured an Arts Council England grant, which has helped fund the development of the script and the writing and recording of the film’s score.
